Spatial segregation of multiple species: A singular limit approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
The spatial segregation of the populations occurs commonly in ecology. One typical way to understand this phenomenon is consider strong competition some species. In paper, we shall multiple-species competition-diffusion models. Under condition that interspecies rates are large, show occurs. Furthermore, derive two-phase Stefan-like problems appearing as singular limit, which may provide modeling interpretation for free boundary studied literature.

Spatial Segregation in Demography: A Short Review
Abstract. Spatial has always been an inherent component of demography, and demographic processes are inherently spatiotemporal. Recognizing the importance of spatial in general and spatial segregation in particular in demographic analysis has created new positions in demography and its conceptual and analytical frameworks. The notion of spatial segregation refers to the distribution of social...
متن کاملSpatial segregation of interacting species.
The distributional pattern formation of the populations of two competitive species in heterogeneous environments is analyzed. In the mathematical formulation, a non-linear dispersive force due to mutual interferences of individuals and an environmental potential function are introduced as a behavioral version of Morisita’s phenomenological theory of “Environmental density”. Mathematical analyse...
متن کاملAn Abelian Limit Approach to a Singular Ergodic Control Problem
We consider an ergodic stochastic control problem for a class of one-dimensional Itô processes where the available control is an added bounded variation process. The corresponding infinite horizon discounted control problem is solved in [28]. Here, we show that, as the discount factor approaches zero, the optimal strategies derived in [28] “converge” to an optimal strategy for the ergodic contr...
متن کاملA New Approach to Measuring Socio-Spatial Economic Segregation
In this paper we propose two measures of income segregation, the rank-order information theory index (HR), and the rank-order variation ratio index (HR). We propose spatially-explicit versions of these indices as well. These indices have several appealing features that remedy flaws in existing measures. First, they are relatively easy to compute, since they require simply computing a series of ...
متن کاملA Singular Limit for Compressible Rotating Fluids
We consider a singular limit problem for the NavierStokes system of a rotating compressible fluid, where the Rossby and Mach numbers tend simultaneously to zero. The limit problem is identified as the 2-D Navier-Stokes system in the “horizontal” variables containing an extra term that accounts for compressibility in the original system.
